Calibre 0.8.60 released with enhanced accented characters support and fullscreen clock (PPA available)
We are living, aren't we, in a world where books have an important role, useful to learn a new language, enhance a previously acquired skill, update one's knowledge in relation to the latest academic researches, plunge into mythical lands created by authors, etc, books expressed in numerous file formats, such as DOC, PDF, EPUB, MOBI, etc.
There are numerous e-book readers available on the web, nevertheless, there are users seeking not merely a reader, but, along with an e-book reader, a solid infrastructure designed around the reader, infrastructure from where the user can convert, modify, update, download, copy to..., books.
Calibre definitely fits into the mentioned "global" description, presenting itself as a full-fledged e-book library management utility, offering, along with a versatile reader, a massive base of tweaks, configuration options, plugins (third-party supported, too), basically, a all-in-one e-book tool.
Calibre 0.8.60 has been released, introducing various changes and refinements.
The new 0.8.60 version adds support to match, when searching for books (and on auto-completion tags, authors, etc), accented characters when typing unaccented characters, meaning, if there are books (exposed in Calibre's books "area") named with accented characters, such as ñ, é, etc, typing in Calibre's search area n will match and expose as correct/accurate searched&found items the books containing ñ.
The above functionality is valid/applicable if Calibre's language is different from the accented characters's language (thus being language-dependent), meaning, if the user runs Calibre in the Spanish language and the Calibre library contains Spanish language-named books (with accented characters), typing n in the search area will not match ñ, the matching is possible if, for instance, the used Calibre language is English and the search is performed on Calibre's books in Spanish (and other accented characters-"enabled" languages), along with books in English, etc.
Weeks ago, Calibre introduced an "absolute" fullscreen mode, removing "distractions" (titlebar, toolbar, side panel, etc) and presenting the user only the read content, nevertheless, especially related to avid readers, the reading activity can take more hours than planned.
Consequently, the 0.8.60 release introduces the ability to display a clock, when in fullscreen mode, clock that is to be keep the reader "anchored" in the spent time, under Calibre-->E-book Viewer-->Preferences-->check Show clock in full screen mode
Along with the above presented functionalities, bug fixes, new news sources (Empire Magazine by Dave Asbury, NZZ Folio by Bernd Leinfelder, Warentest) and improved news sources (Hola magazine, Adventure Gamers, Cosmopolitan UK, Onda Rock) come to deliver a new meaningful Calibre version.
