Change your Calibre look and feel with Sphere 1.2 Calibre Set (pleasant-to-the-eye icon pack)
Calibre is a versatile powerful e-book library management tool, uniting (under a singular interface) numerous functionalities, such as metadata editing, e-book viewer, e-book conversion, automatic online news downloading, etc.
While Calibre can be definitely considered a high-quality tool (as compared to application from both open and proprietary "worlds"), there are users expressing demands for various visual refinements, especially related to the used icon theme.
Sphere 1.2 Calibre Set is a bundle of icons, designed with usage-under-Calibre in mind, allowing users to visually refine the full-fledged utility.
The Sphere icons present the user a rounded icon style with multiple used colors and a care for details, while retaining usability (being easily identifiable as their intended purpose) and a pleasant-to-the-eye look & feel.
Sphere 1.2 Calibre Set comes with 150+ icons, consequently, covering (with few exceptions, such as the pulsing heart-like donate icon) all of Calibre's areas, including its main view (where books are exposed), e-book viewer (the E-book Viewer's controls and preferences), as well as "internal" components (like for instance, the Edit Metadata dialog).
In order to install the mentioned icon set:
- first, download the icons and extract them
- then, type in a terminal
gksu nautilus
- finally, copy the extracted icons via the just-summoned-through-the-terminal Nautilus (
devices, mimetypes, pluginsand the rest of the "folderless" icons) to (if Calibre has been installed via Ubuntu Software Center)/usr/share/calibre/imagesor (if Calibre has been installed via third-party means)/opt/calibre/resources
Sphere 1.2 Calibre Set comes with a complete icon set, yet, there are various icons "untouched" by the Sphere set, consequently, in order to benefit a full-of-icons Calibre experience, copy the above mentioned icons by pasting & replacing the "old" icons (as opposed to simply deleting the "old" Calibre icons and then paste the new Sphere set).
Reverting to the regular Calibre icon set is to be performed by reinstalling Calibre via Synaptic's Mark for Reinstallation (utility available via Ubuntu Software Center), process that, while retaining one's added books, reverts the icons to their original state.
Worth mentioning
Updating to a superior Calibre version, removes the Sphere 1.2 Calibre Set, consequently, in order to preserve the Sphere icons, the user is to keep the icons in a folder (for further usage).
