Easily toggle between Unity launcher's auto-hide ON/OFF via Unity Launcher Toggle (Ubuntu Software Center)
Unity launcher is an important part of the desktop, allowing the user to easily launch preferred applications and access quicklists, keeping a set of apps always visible on the desktop.
Nevertheless, while the launcher is exposed on the desktop by default, there are users who prefer an auto-hide state for the Unity launcher, for reasons like small screen size in-use (thus maximizing an app, maximizes "fully" the app, gaining extra screen space), habit, "clean" only-the-panel desktop, etc.
Setting the launcher's auto-hide ON/OFF can be easily performed by navigating to System Settings-->Appearance-->Behavior.
Unity Launcher Toggle takes the Unity launcher's "presence" mode a step further, allowing the user to switch between auto-hide ON and OFF in a matter of seconds.
Launching Unity Launcher Toggle, automatically pushes its appindicator into the Unity panel/top bar, clicking on it, reveals its functionalities, meaning, clicking Toggle, sets the launcher to auto-hide ON, clicking again Toggle, sets the launcher to auto-hide OFF, basically, presenting itself as a 1-click away lightweight toggler with a simplistic look&feel.

A definitely interesting aspect of Unity Launcher Toggle is its HUD compatibility, consequently, setting the launcher to auto-hide ON can be achieved by pressing the Alt key (summoning the HUD), typing toggle and pressing Enter (repeating the mentioned action revers the action, repeating it again, revers the just-reversed action).
In order to enable Unity Launcher Toggle at startup, navigate to Unity panel's "cog"-->Startup Applications-->Add and type on Name unitytoggle and on Command /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/unity-launcher-toggle/bin/unity-launcher-toggle
Unity Launcher Toggle 12.07 is available for free via Ubuntu Software Center.
Worth mentioning
Unity Launcher Toggle has been created as part of Ubuntu App Showdown.
