Keep a journal with the lightweight Dayjournal (PPA available)

Dayjournal

Ideas, short thoughts, spontaneous sparks, particular intellectual discoveries, etc play an important role in our daily lives, where, sometimes, we must put in words various ideas that, across a period of time, tend to become a journal of "thoughts" related to specific days, months and years.

There are numerous note-taking applications with numerous features and functionalities, but, especially when dealing with long periods of time (like years), there is the possibility of losing a massive amount of small notes due to that particular used app's obsolete state (its developer stopped its maintenance), incompatibility with a particular Ubuntu version, etc, basically, the user is left with a personal collection of notes with an unreadable file format, being confronted with either ditching the notes or keeping an old version of Ubuntu.

Dayjournal is a lightweight note-taking utility, designed with time endurance and full compatibility in mind by saving the notes as regular text files, format compatible with every text editor and Ubuntu version.

Its view is simple, with a click-able calendar on the right-side and a typing area in the left-side, place where notes are to be written.

Dayjournal automatically saves the typed content, meaning, in order to write&save a note, only the actual typing is required.

After the app is closed, reopening the utility summons Dayjournal with the previously written note during the entire day (such as June 21st 2012), modifying the content previously typed, modifies the actual note, basically, every day has only a note endlessly editable (there can't be two separate notes on a single day).

Clicking (and thus selecting) days/months/years from calendar, allows user to write notes for a previous/future day.

Dayjournal's notes can be accessed via the DayJournal folder (under the home folder), notes categorized by year, month, day.
