Split and join files with the lightweight utility U Splitter

U Splitter

There are, across the web, numerous applications used by users when dealing with movies, archives, online access, etc, applications usually designed with a multiple-functionality approach in mind, meaning, users are commonly looking for apps that feature, in the same interface, numerous actions.

Size is definitely an important aspect when dealing with computers, especially as in the case of large 1080p movies, massive archives, etc, aspect that sometimes can interfere with user's intentions, like for instance, when trying to copy a "big" file from the computer to an external device capable of receiving data only via USB, USB with smaller size than the actual intended about-to-be-copied file and/or when "transporting" a large file to a no-Internet place via a rewritable CD, latter action doable only progressively step-by-step.

U Splitter is a handy utility designed with the main purpose of splitting files into smaller parts and, on-demand, restoring the split files into the original file.

Featuring a just-works attitude and focused only on file splitting&joining files, U Splitter comes with support to split files by number (x parts) and size (x parts of x MB per file).

Its usage is immediately graspable, clicking the Split button/area, opens a dialog where the about-to-be-split file is to be located, usage behavior followed by the Join area/action, too.

The split action generates filename-aware files (x001, x002, x003, etc) that can be copied separately to a CD, USB, harddisk, and, are to be, when the joining action is performed, recopied in the same folder, meaning, in order to successfully restore the original file, its split files must be located, all of them, in the same folder.

U Splitter 1.0 is available for free in Ubuntu Software Center.
