Easily create web shortcuts (Yahoo, Gmail) on the Unity Launcher/Springboard

Unity-shell has brought a lot of changes in Natty Narwhal and also plenty of room for customization.

One important aspect/part of Unity is the launcher/Springboard which already has various hide effects (fade, slide, fade&slide) and supports drag&drop (one can easily put an app from the dash on the launcher and "Keep in launcher").

Chrome/ium transforms a web page into a shortcut with almost no trouble and that respective shortcuts can be dragged&dropped on the launcher, hence making a nice web shortcut quite easily.

"Test-Drive" an application in Ubuntu Software Center via Weblive

Edubuntu is a flavor of Ubuntu that comes with many educational packages and has an awesome "test-drive" session, where you can test Edubuntu via a web browser without installing anything (with password&user).

This cool "test-drive" features is available now in Ubuntu Software Center, thanks to Stephane Graber's Weblive API.

All you have to do is to install "qtnx" via Ubuntu Software Center and you're ready to go.

"Appmenu" support for QT has landed in Ubuntu 11.04

Application Menu ("appmenu") was implemented weeks ago for the GTK applications, but the QT apps were still based on the "old"/normal menu.

A new plugin has just landed in Natty Narwhal that provides appmenu support for Qt, so, applications like VLC media player, have now full support for the appmenu.

Humanity-Mono icons get minor updates

With just couple of hours left until the UI freeze, the developers are throwing the last bits of bling.

A minor but nice update have received the Humanity-Mono icons.

A new network indicator icon and a blue (no more green) "unread messages" envelope, a sound indicator redesigned and other not-so-visible changes are making the indicators look better.

Unity's UI correct terms usage (Natty Narwhal)

The new Unity 3D interface has brought a lot of changes , innovation, an easiness in desktop interaction, but, also, a little bit of naming-related confusion among the common user , who may feel overwhelmed by this "complex" names given to Unity's components.

Unity is build upon the principle of easiness, openness and has a complex desktop approach but intuitive parts whom the regular user can identify/operate upon quite easy.

"Control Center" renamed "System Settings" (Ubuntu 11.04 alpha 3)

Unity panel (the top bar) receives new features almost daily.

A few days ago, a new option, "Control Center", was added to the "Session Menu" (top-right corner near the "Me Menu") and just now has been renamed to "System Settings".

"Unity Launcher Integration" extension puts Thunderbird on the Unity dock/launcher (released)

A couple of weeks ago, we announced the release of Thunderbird's "Me Menu" integration in Ubuntu 11.04.

Just now, Mozilla has released an experimental extension, "Unity Launcher Integration" 0.1, that lets Thunderbird integrate with Unity dock/launcher (Natty Narwhal only).
