Ubuntu One adds enhanced Share links (seconds-away manner of sharing published file links)

Ubuntu One is a powerful online service that offers an easy-to-use manner of storing items in the cloud, items synchronized via its desktop "part".

Pushing files into the cloud, serves as fast access from multiple machines, Ubuntu versions, etc, for the same user using the same files, nevertheless, Ubuntu One ships by default the ability to publish files.

Consequently, publishing a file (via navigating to http://one.ubuntu.com-->Files-->More-->Publish file), generates a weblink, allowing the user to paste the link on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc, pasted link that provides access for other users to the weblink's Ubuntu One file.

Publishing a file, generates a specific weblink, the user can utilize it, nevertheless, after pasting a weblink (generated from Ubuntu One online Dashboard via the web-browser), the web-browser is closed; sharing the published file's link need can later (after days, weeks, etc) appear, "forcing" the user to open a web-browser, navigate to Ubuntu One website, open Files, clicking More, etc, in order to be able to copy the file's sharing link, basically, always repeating extra steps for a simple task.

Days ago, the developers added a Share links category to Ubuntu One control panel, category that has just been enriched with functionality.

Share links gathers and displays the published files directly into the control panel, providing a fast manner of re-sharing a file (via its online weblink) in a matter of seconds.

The displayed files are presented with full names, definitely a + for accurate usability, meaning, publishing Myimage.png, exposes the item as Myimage.png (the user can properly identify the searched file in situations like Myimage.tar.gz "versus" Myimage.png).

Furthermore, the items can be directly opened (via their default file handler, meaning, clicking the Open button of a PNG file, opens the PNG file via Eye of GNOME).

Copying a in-order-to-be-published weblink is to performed by right-clicking on the weblink-->Copy Link Location or directly by pressing Copy link, latter action followed by directly pasting the weblink into Twitter, Google+, Identi.ca, etc.

By default, Share links exposes files only, yet by publishing a file from a synchronized folder (like for instance, navigating to the local Ubuntu One folder and right-clicking on a file from inside a folder-->Ubuntu One-->Publish) exposes the from-inside-folder file into Share links (without exposing the actual folder); the mentioned approach completely removes the need for a web-browser, Share links automatically displays the to-be-published weblink.

Searching files is as easy as typing a preferred word in the Search files, action that summons a handy dialog displaying the matched item.

The newly added Share links is definitely a solid point of Ubuntu One, transforming a "laborious" process into a just-seconds action, bringing a professional user-friendly approach suitable for both newcomers and versed users.
