Unity 3.6.4 released with with mouse-wheel scrolling Dash, re-sizable dock icons and Ubuntu Software Center integration

A plethora of updates have just hit Ubuntu 11.04 alpha 3 aiming for stability, consistency and speed improvements.

Unity shell has been updated to version 3.6.4, bringing new interesting features:

  • finally, the scroll with the mouse-wheel in the Dash is working
  • "Find Media Apps", "Find Internet Apps" from the Dash act now as an Ubuntu Software Center link
  • a new category added to the Dash-->"Apps Available for Download" (Ubuntu Software Center's apps)
  • right-click on the dock's "Applications" shows a menu with a nice properly-structured software categories (software organized Ubuntu Software Center-like and "old" Gnome 2.x-like-->"Games", "Graphics", "Internet", "Multimedia", "Office", "System", "Applications")
  • "All Files", "Documents", "Folders", "Images", "Audio", "Videos", "Presentations", "Other", "Files&Folders" categories are just 1-click away now (right-click on the "Files&Folders" from the Unity dock)
  • the search in the Dash is noticeable faster, the founded items are better organized and represented thanks to zeitgeist fts extension 0.7 version
  • Unity dock/launcher's icons are now re-sizable between 32-64 px (choose your size from Ubuntu Unity Plugin-->Experimental-->Launcher icon size)
  • added a new option under Ubuntu Unity Plugin-->Experimental-->Dash Blur ("No Blur" and "Static Blur", but not quite usable at the moment)

There is still plenty of time for further customization and UI features to add until March 24 (UI freeze).
