Unity Gwibber lens gained minor yet relevant additions in Ubuntu 12.10
Weeks ago, Unity Gwibber lens landed in Ubuntu 12.10, being implemented as a new default lens, gathering and exposing social accounts in the Dash via an enriched approach, in the sense of delivering, along with a regular view, Social Previews.
The Social Previews are an improved item preview mode, that exposes the right-clicked item in a dedicated preview mode, rendering messages into a fancy bubble "packed" with various actions, such as View, Like, Retweet.
A new updated Unity Gwibber lens arrived in Quantal, bringing minor yet relevant bits.
Polish and care for detail precision are aspects considered by the developers, approach expressed in the latest Ubuntu cycles as a common attitude.
The newly landed Gwibber lens removes the Retweet button as the default action (from inside the Social Previews), adopting View as default, meaning, opening an item in its Social Preview, exposes the item with the View button highlighted, pressing the Enter key, opens the item via the default web-browser (the "old" behavior exposes the previewed item with the Retweet button highlighted, hitting the Enter key, retweets it, thus being a potential undesired action generator, in the sense of performing actions via an accidental pressing of the Enter key).
The just-improved Social Preview introduces support to display full contact details, thus exposing the previewed item with both full name and Twitter address name (like for instance, My Full Name and @myfullname).
Sometimes, the relevancy of tweets is "bounded" to their of-origin time period, consequently, a tweet can be perceived (and used) as important based on its time-aware freshness (such as, "Ubuntu 12.10 BETA 2 has been released" is relevant 3, 4, 5 hours later since its official release).
The mentioned quality has been implemented into the Social Preview, previewing an item, exposes the item featuring time-specific bits, such as 1 hour ago, 3 days ago, etc, allowing the user to accurately "digest" social informations.
