Unity Utilities lens adds handy wordnik-based Dictionary scope
Words play, aren't they, an important role in our global society, words used in a massive amount all over the world, in places like the web, schools, work areas, etc.
Being a native English speaker or not, one deals with numerous words with numerous meanings, occasions when a versed dictionary is needed, both explaining the basic sense and also various "secondary" meanings, latter facet that, at least across the internets, sometimes plays a more relevant role than the word's basic connotation.
Unity Utilities lens is a handy lens, allowing the user to access different yet related informations via the Dash, related in the sense of being categorizable as helpful, of interest, informative, facilitative, etc, yet bearing a lightweight approach.
Summing two numbers, observing a specific city's temperature and windspeed, etc, are actions easily achievable via the Utilities lens (opening the Dash and typing 3 + 4, automatically exposes the mathematical result, typing paris, exposes Paris' temperature, windspeed, hour).
Unity Utilities lens has been updated to another interesting release, introducing a new scope/source, Unity Dictionary scope, scope useful to generate and expose word definitions directly in the Dash Home.
Unity Utilities lens has been designed and implemented as under-the-hood, meaning, the Utilities lens doesn't feature a dedicated icon on the lens bar, yet, by typing words in Dash's search area, it populates the Dash with its results (while remaining hidden).
In order to utilize the Dictionary scope, open the Dash, type a word and click on preferred results, latter action that opens the clicked items (via the default web-browser) directly on its a wordnik page.
The Dictionary scope properly renders matched definition via the fancy card view, exposing the searched word as "title" and the actual definition as "body", thus displaying a sufficient (in numerous cases) amount of data to satisfy the user's demands, sufficient enough to also not requesting extra actions (such as opening a word via the default web-browser).
A definitely interesting aspect of the newly landed scope is its used source, wordnik, a powerful online-based dictionary that takes advantage of numerous versed dictionaries, such as American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia, Wiktionary, GNU Webster's 1913, WordNet 3.0, etc.
Furthermore, wordnik comes with a complete approach of dealing with words, such as Etymologies, Examples, Related Words, etc, basically, a solid bundle of helpers suitable to enlarge and educate the user's word knowledge.
